🧼 About Our Cold Process Soap

Yes — all true soap is made with lye (sodium hydroxide). Lye is an essential ingredient in the soap-making process.

During saponification, sodium hydroxide reacts with the oils and fats in the recipe and transforms them into soap and naturally occurring glycerin. Once saponification is complete, there is no lye remaining as lye in the finished soap when the recipe has been properly formulated and made.

Our cold process soaps are then allowed to cure for 4–6 weeks. This curing time allows excess water to evaporate and helps create a harder, longer-lasting bar with a beautiful lather.

Saponification is the chemical process that converts fats and oils into soap. The fatty acid composition of the oils used can influence the finished bar’s hardness, lather, cleansing properties, and conditioning feel.
