Our handcrafted artisan soaps are made in small batches using skin-loving oils and butters, along with sodium hydroxide (lye). Yes—every true soap is made with lye. It’s an essential part of the soap-making process.

During saponification, sodium hydroxide reacts with the oils and butters, transforming them into soap and naturally occurring glycerin. By the time the curing process is complete, the sodium hydroxide has been consumed and is no longer present in the finished bar. That’s why each bar is carefully cured for 4–6 weeks before it’s ready for your home.

What is Saponification?

Saponification is the chemical process that occurs when oils and fats (triglycerides) react with sodium hydroxide to create soap. The blend of saturated and unsaturated fatty acids in each recipe influences the hardness, lather, cleansing ability, and skin feel of every bar.
