What Is Mica? ✨

Mica is a naturally occurring mineral known for its beautiful reflective qualities. When processed into very fine particles, it creates the shimmer commonly associated with mica.
At Body Essentials by Starleen, we use cosmetic-grade mica in select handcrafted products to add beautiful color and visual detail. The cosmetic micas used in our products are purchased from Mad Micas, a reputable cosmetic colorant supplier, and are separate from the natural mineral mica pictured here.
Mica isn’t the only way we add color to our handcrafted products. We also love working with clays and other naturally derived colorants, depending on the product and the look we’re creating. Each brings its own unique color and character to a finished bar.
From the beautiful tones of clays to the vibrant colors and shimmer of cosmetic mica, choosing colorants is another part of the creativity behind our handcrafted soaps.
While mica itself is naturally occurring, the beautiful colors found in cosmetic micas are typically created using additional pigments and colorants. This gives us a wide range of shades to use when creating our artisan soaps and other products.
